Bio

Uta Birkmayer

Born to a German mother and Hungarian father, Uta grew up in a little white row house in southern Germany—the artistic and mildly rebellious middle child and only girl within a scientist family. Always fascinated by stories of people, countries and places from around the world and the early realization that many of these places were real and could be visited, she decided early on that she needed to create a life that allowed her to work anywhere in the world.

Luckily, her father's expatriate assignment to the US and UK exposed the family to new and foreign cultures, Uta quickly fell in love with the open-minded and ethnocentric culture of the US, where she eventually returned to attend Cornell Hotel School in NY, where she graduated with a BS and MBA.

Since 1984, her own work experience has included an active participation in corporate and developmental operations from the USA to Central America, Europe, Africa, Asia—and the high seas.

Uta has made it her life’s mission to inspire human transformation by innovatively connecting to what’s real and what matters—to ultimately create what lasts and brings meaning. In her capacity at Xsense she works with design/development as well as marketing and operational teams, connecting them to the stories and history of place, inspiring them to artfully weave these stories into their design practice—ranging from physical design to the culinary, healing, and sensory arts.

Uta believes that every aspect of a place—from street names to landscape, from roof tiles to flavors, and from wall colors and sounds—is part of a connected and meaningful true story. Such experiences leave us transformed and connected to the place and its people; they create and sustain the real estate and operational value of any project without adding cost, says Uta.

Uta has a well-earned reputation for successfully bringing her unique visionary skills to the aid of businesses seeking to provide authenticity and extraordinary experiences of place to owners, investors, operators, sales and marketing all of which translate to the client base.

Uta now resides in San Luis Obispo, California, with her husband and spoiled larger-than-life Maine Coon cat Rexy.
